



Mudikondan
Mudikondan is a small bountiful village in Nannilam taluk, Thiruvarur district of Tamil Nadu in the very heart of Kaveri river delta. The village is located in the State Highway 23 connecting Mayiladuthurai and Thiruvarur. This village appears prominently in both history and culture. Valmiki Ramayanam Balakandam first sargam 87th at this village referred as the Bharadhwaja Ashram. Lord Rama gave dharshan to Sage Bharadwaja as the coronated king of Ayodhya, giving the village its name. The village has received the name Magudavardhanapuri, directly translated in Tamil as Mudikondan, meaning the place of coronation. As a living proof, the village is still inhabited by direct descendants of Sage Bharadhwajar.In 5th century AD , when Lord Rama landed on mudikondan, the Pallava kings have sanctified this very landing spot. Later in 15th 1st Kulothunga of Chola dynasty has significantly expanded and re-sanctified this village. AD, the 9th The village has been the breeding ground for high culture and philosophy until 20th renowned musicologist Mudikondan Venkatrama Iyer born in 1897 later became famous for his treatise on the rare Simhanandana tala (128 aksharas) in 1952. The famous composer Gopalakrishna Bharathi was born in 1810 and spent his early years here. His devotion to Lord Nataraja started in the village. His meeting with Saint Thyagaraja led to the well-known composition in Abhogi raga. Tantric and Saaktha traditions came to the village following the mystical Kali floatsam over the Kaveri tributary.In 20th century, Mudikondan has been blessed by Kanchi Maha Periyava (Sri Sri Chandrasekarendra Saraswathi Swamigal) performing Vyasa Pooja in 1952. The great saint Sri Alangudi Swamigal (Sri Sri Swayam Pragasanandha Saraswathi Swamigal) was born in 19thBhagavatham till date. Since Swamigal, 3 other sanyasi’s have also attained siddhi in the village.The village has many temples viz.
